Designing Accessible Digital Experiences for Government Engagement

Crafted user-centered web designs for local governments, blending strong visual aesthetics with functional clarity. Delivered responsive, accessible experiences through wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and close collaboration with front-end developers.

Project Overview

  • CivicPlus, a leader in digital solutions for local governments, needed to improve the usability, accessibility, and visual appeal of its municipal websites to better serve citizens and comply with ADA standards.

  • My role was to redesign public-facing web interfaces that were both visually engaging and functionally accessible, ensuring seamless communication between local governments and their communities.

  • Collaborated with the Art Director and front-end engineers to conduct user research, develop responsive wireframes, and design high-fidelity mockups. Ensured all designs met ADA accessibility standards and followed CivicPlus branding guidelines. Led iterations based on stakeholder feedback and user testing.

  • Launched award-winning municipal websites, including one that received the 2017 First Place Award for Excellence in Communication from a North Carolina city. The improved designs enhanced user navigation, increased civic engagement, and set a new design benchmark for CivicPlus clients.

Human-centric design: People who love people

Collaborated closely with municipal clients to understand their community values and communication priorities, translating those insights into accessible, user-centered web designs. Navigated constraints such as limited content structure and CMS flexibility to deliver solutions that satisfied client expectations and authentically represented their communities.

When clients reach out to redesign their website, it’s not just about a fresh look—it’s about creating a platform that reflects their identity and serves the community they live in. It’s more than aesthetics; it’s about purpose and connection.

What our client said

“We don’t just need a website—we need a digital front door that reflects who we are and supports the people we serve every day.”

Every design element—from buttons and color to texture and background—was carefully researched and thoughtfully chosen to reflect the community’s identity and translate seamlessly into the overall theme.

Thank you so much!
